Rex Resolution 40: Mord a la carte

Something is definitely cooking in this episode when the manager of an upmarket restaurant collapses suddenly and dies. What is the shock of his recently dumped girlfriend opening her blouse? Something he ate? Was there a Kitchen Nightmare and did Gordon Ramsay slip him the F-word? No, interesting as those possibilities are, it seems the man was overdosed with heart medication. Panicked, the girl leaves the scene, although she is smalrt enough to do up her blouse and call an ambulance first.

When Moser arrives on the scene, the chef/owner's wife is keen to steer Moser in the girl's direction. Then when Rex discovers an audio tape of increasingly irate phone messages left on the victim's phone (time for this girl to see 'He just isn't into you'), it seems a pretty good bet Moser's on the right track. Except, of course, the mystery deepens when the girl divulges the victim and the chef's wife were having an affair and that the chef and manager were at each other's throats over the business.

Enter Mummy. Freud would get a big kick out of this episode. Let's just say the relationship between mother and son is very intense. Poor wifey is very much the third wheel. until she overhears the pair talking about how they took out the manager. Taking full advantage, she soon moves into a position of power within the restaurant. It's all too shortlived though, because Moser soon catches the mother out with a sloppy bottle of wine and secures the evidence needed for her arrest.

Other players in this episode include Wilfried Hochholdinger , above, as the chef, surprisingly not credited with IMDB for this episode, Eva Hassman, above, here as wife Liz Konrad, Alexander Rossi, not credited with IMDB for this episode, and Tex Rubinowitz, not credited with IMDb for this episode.

Yes, a classic episode to be set in Vienna - *very* Freudian overtones!
