Hankie alert

If you're watching the Rex in Rome series final tonight (SBS, 7.30pm), be sure to have a huge box of Kleenex close by. Expect a tsunami of tears.

And, no, it has nothing to do with Kaspar Capparoni doing his best Fabio impersonation as seen below in Pole Dancing 101. From the holes worn in the knees of his trousers, I'm guessing 'novice', right? A sight guaranteed to bring anyone to tears. I just had to share this. Hee.

So, what happens next? Earlier, a little SBS bird told me Stockinger would be re-run. Guess we'll have to see.
NEWFLASH! SBS have told me they are running repeats of the Brandtner series from next week.

The jury is out....

and still deliberating.

Rex in Rome.

I admit, I set myself up NOT to like this. After all, no poppy theme song, no Vienna, no Moser/Brandtner/Hoffmann, no Stockinger/Boeck and, I was assuming, no Kunz and, more importantly, no Wurstsemmel (I'm feeling rather maligned here). Dog aside, practically nothing that makes Rex, well, Rex.

But there was a few glimpses of Vienna, the odd Wurstsemmel or two and dear old Kunz. Still wearing the same old outfit. Kunz was just plain odd or should I say even odder?

First, something strange was growing on his head, making him look like a poor man's Benny Hill (not a good look, Martin!) Then he seemed to have difficulty speaking. I thought the poor man had had a stroke for a minute then realised he was still speaking German but had simply been dubbed into Italian. What the?

The cynic in me says they kept Kunz and the Wurstsemmel in just to create the link to the 'real' Rex. So, I'm a purist. Don't mess with the Rex. In this vein, they also maintained the Rex tradition of having key cast members disappear without explanation. I mean, Brandtner's been on a toilet break since Season 6. I just find this really irritating - the lack of explanation, not Brandtner's bowels.

I stuck it out. It was o-kay. I think I lost the plotline along the way (there was a plot?) but I may have dozed off. Thank goodness for the antidote episode of the real Rex straight after at 8.30pm.
I'll keep watching but, for now, I'm thinking ROLL ON SERIES 11 (back to Vienna).

Italian Rex

Hasn't been much news Rex-wise hence the lack of posts.

However, this week heralds the start of the Italian Rex series. I'm skeptical but I'll be checking it out Thursday on SBS.

If you catch it, let me know what you think!

Preso di sorpresa!

Okay. So we have our first dissenter.

Someone LIKES the change of Rex to Italy.

Now, it can't be anyone in Australia as we're still waiting to see it.

So, don't be shy. Tell us more? We're interested to know what's good about it.

Anyone?

Mama mia, Italian Rex

SBS have told me that they have yet to schedule the Italian series of Rex but it's highly likely it will be shown early in the new year.

In the meantime, courtesy of Nikki, check out the Italian Rex theme here.

New Rex

Has anyone seen any of the Italian episodes of Rex yet?

For me, Rex is more than just the dog, it's Vienna, the ham roll...I can take a change of Kommissar but a change in city, language? Still, I'm curious.

If you've seen the new series, spill the beans!
