Wo ist der Stocki?

Ah, SBS, you make me irate sometimes.

I discover you've hidden Stockinger away Tuesdays 1pm. Perfect timing for me though because I get home from work about 12.50pm and unwind over lunch with Stocki.

Two weeks in and it's disappeared. How am I supposed to enjoy my Wurstsemmel now?

Update: Apparently SBS say they have screened all of Series 1? I don't think so unless I missed a week. Anyway, they don't plan to put any episodes online (pah!)
and will not be screening Stockinger again for about 8-12 months on SBS 2.

Stockinger

Still in swine flu recovery BUT have noticed, for those of us currently not working, Stockinger is being screened at lunch times (1pm) on SBS Tuesdays. For others, remember to set your recorders.

And, of course, Rex returns to its regular timeslot this week.

Rex Resolution 28: Stockis letzter Fall

Sob. The end of Rex as we know it (until now). Stockinger's off but the disappointment will be shortlived because, at the start of series 3, Rex gets a new plaything. der Boeck!

So, out with the old and in with the new. A common thing with Inspector Rex.

This episode starts with a good example of how not to complain. A man goes ballistic in the unemployment office but it seems venting is not sufficient and it's off to buy a good old-style cut-throat razor. You'd think his menacing countenance and testing of the knife on the paper wrap would alert the shop assistant to his unstable nature but, hey, then we'd have no story.

He certainly attracts interest when he next uses it to slash the throat of a judge. Moser and Stocki are immediately on the job, looking at all the cases the judge has been involved with. It seems like a hefty amount of work is required but then the perpetrator considerately slashes the throat of a doctor, allowing the team to isolate cases in which both the judge and the doctor were involved. When Dr. Graf also identifies that he must be a left-hander, the team are soon trailing the suspect.

Out for revenge against his ex-wife, who he feels neglected him in favour of their child, he locks up his mother in law in a cupboard (now how many people have always wanted to do that?) and sets out for the kindergarten to attack his wife when she shows to collect the kid.

Of course, the team turns up to save the day, although Stockinger almosts makes a much messier exit, when the cut throat blade narrowly misses him.

Rex Resolution 27: Ueber den Daechern von Wien

Okay. Australia Day (today, the 26th January) is typically a big barbecue day. However, setting alight to a car containing an unconscious woman, before pushing it over a drop, is probably taking things a little too far.

When the corpse is first discovered, it looks like a simple car accident but some irregularities mean Moser and team are called in to investigate.

The woman's husband seems distraught when Moser and Stocki visit to pass on the bad news. What they don't know is that he has a very 'naughty' female hidden away in his apartment, with whom he seems to do little else but eat luxurious food and make love. Probably the reason why he's soon out buying oysters (got to boost that libido a little more....), when he gets challenged by a woman who lets him know she knows everything he's up to! Such a silly thing to say really. Such a statement never bodes well for the mutterer in an episode of Inspector Rex.

When Dr. Graf manages to reconstruct the face of the car victim, it becomes apparent all is not as thought and the team must look a little closer at the husband.

Oh, and get your tissues ready, this episode prepares us for the departure of Stockinger to greener pastures (Salzburg) and an offshoot series.

On the sidekick side, Stockinger was leading clearly but now Boeck has suddenly increased. Is that you voting, Heinz?

All voters (a heady five of us) affirm Rex should have stayed in Austria. Time to lobby Peter Hajek? Probably not. Yet.

Recycled Stocki

Ok. So all of the single series of Stockinger has been shown.

SBS tell me they have the rights to repeat the series and are planning to reshow all 14 episodes in the next 8-12 months. You can, of course, also buy the DVD, now available locally from Sanity. With subtitles, no doubt. Rats. I'll wait for it to hit the bargain bucket.

As you know, the reviews for Stockinger were pretty poor. I was a little sour on it myself but, in the end, I really enjoyed it. If you view it for what it is, basic entertainment, it fits the bill.

Rex bonanza

Ah, it's been a while.

Thursday night. Stockinger night, right?

Nope. It's disappeared. I don't think SBS has run the entire series and I don't know why it's been pulled. I started to quite enjoy it. So, back to the DVD and the tricky dialect.

However, good news for Rex fans. Double Rex starting at 7.30pm. Unfortunately, I have to work Thursday nights. So I'll catch up with my dose later in the evening.

And, for Karl Markovics fans, make sure you catch The Counterfeiters. Fabulous movie.

Dreaming of Boeck

I had to work last night so I taped Stockinger. Although I have the DVDs, I find myself heavily dependent on SBS's subtitles.

I so want to enjoy this series but it's just not doing it for me. Indeed, I fell asleep. *sheepish grin*

Must be missing my Rex fix because I ended up dreaming of Boeck or rather Heinz Weixelbaum last night. Heinz was doing some kind of media tour at my old university. He was very, very anxious. He couldn't speak English either. I started to talk to him in German and he seemed to calm right down. I haven't dreamt in German in many a year.

How odd.

You know, one of my biggest beefs about Rex is the way Boeck and Brandtner simply disappeared to be replaced by Hoffmann. No explanation at all.

Apparently Heinz left to return to theatre but his IMDB entry hasn't been updated since 2002.

Anyone know what he's up to these days?

So, Stockinger....

Hmm. Time for a change of opinion. Yes, it's week four of Stockinger and I can't really say it's thrilling me.

I love Karl Markovics, I love the character Stockinger, the scenery is fabulous but the story lines? Pre-SBS, when I was struggling without subtitles, I thought I was maybe missing something. Now, with subtitles, it seems not.

There don't seem to be any good supporting characters in this series. Stocki's sidekick Antonella really adds very little. And the boss? Is there any point to his ramblings?

You can sense the desperation with the occasional cross to Rex.

Stockinger wastes the talents of Karl Markovics and it's a shame because it could have been so much better.

Seems I'm not alone.

Stockinger debuts tonight, 7.30pm SBS. You'll know where I'll be - filling in the bits I just couldn't understand. Like everything Stocki's female sidekick utters.

Yes, I've been neglecting the blog. Had no Rex time of late and, I have to confess, I've even missed the SBS showings due to an unfortunate time clash with The Amazing Race. Bad, bad Wurstsemmel. Still, there's always the dvds......

Note that no one is voting in the Favourite Kommissar poll. Not that this blog is being inundated with visitors. Rex fans where are you all?

It's good to see Alexander Pschill out in front. I didn't expect that. And while we're on the subject of Alex? We're still waiting on your revamped website....hint, hint.

Struggling with the dialect in Stockinger, I approached a German website that had some REX transcripts to see if they knew of anywhere I could find the same for Stockinger.

It amused me greatly to get an email back from someone at the site telling me they couldn't understand all of Stockinger either. Ha.

Apparently, this is why it didn't do so well in Germany and probably part of the reason there was only one series. Schade.

NEWSFLASH: In looking for the address of the site listed above, I just came across this.....looks like you can all get to enjoy Stockinger. Well done, SBS.

Clip of the Week - Stockinger

I'm loving this series and I'd really recommend it. Quite a bit of fun. Wonder why SBS haven't shown it? SBS? Maybe I'll leave a note at their website.

I'd really appreciate getting my hands on transcripts of the episodes. Some of the actors are extremely difficult to understand, because of the dialect and because they speak too fast for me. Seeing it written down would help a lot. I'm really surprised the DVDs don't even have German subtitles for the hard of hearing.

Small guest appearances from Hoellerer, Dr. Graf and Rex in the first episode. Brief nod to Rex in episode 3 as Stocki pauses by a sign showing 'No dogs' with a very Rex like figure on it.

Hey, in case anyone is in any doubt about my status as an 'Inspector Rex' tragic, I managed to source the whole series of Stockinger on DVD from Amazon Germany.

All well and good. It arrived within days. I couldn't wait to kick off an episode. Then emerged a slight problem. No subtitles. When DVDs have subtitles in all manner of languages usually, I'd made an assumption there would be English subtitles. Wrong! Mist.

No problem for me but I wish at least it had German subtitles (for the hearing impaired) because some of the Austrian dialekt is a little tricky to understand.

Anyhow, first episode was pretty good......will keep you updated.

I may be an avid Rex fan but something missed my attention. I never realised there was a Rex spin-off. Apparently, Stockinger was a 13 part series that followed Stockinger after his move to Salzburg at the end of Series 2 of Rex. Anyone out there seen this?
